I’m helping one of the best grassroots groups in America fight climate change. It’s the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) Action Fund. I really, really believe in this group. Every year they raffle an electric car to raise money. So I’m helping them sell tickets. My goal is ten tickets, raising $2,000 for a great cause.

This year the raffle prize is a Tesla dream car or a cutting-edge Rivian eclectic pickup truck. The Rivian truck is nearly impossible to get, so they went out and bought one in advance. You’ll get the keys days after you win!

For a raffle ticket price of just $200, you could win a total prize package of at least $190,000 (they even pay your state and federal taxes on the prize!). And no matter what, the planet wins.

Anyone can win! Last year’s winner was Julian of Massachusetts. He told us he loves his Tesla Model X Plaid because he doesn’t have to go to any gas stations — and was glad to participate in the raffle for the climate because “humans only have one collective home. It’s important we make it last for generations to come.” 

Thanks to Julian and other ticket buyers, CCAN Action Fund is able to do great work year round. This spring, we helped pass policies for shared solar and green banks in Virginia, and electrified homes in Washington, DC. We’re also working to bring more offshore wind to Maryland and pressuring Congress to unleash the clean energy revolution with historic transmission investments.

Raffle Details and FAQs

You must be 18 years old to purchase a raffle ticket. Persons under 18 years of age may not be the beneficiary of a ticket purchase.

Ticket purchaser — and beneficiary, if the beneficiary is not the same as the purchaser — must also be citizens of the United States or legal residents thereof.

Void where prohibited. The raffle is not available to purchasers located in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Hawaii, Utah, or the state of Washington.

Ticket purchaser — and beneficiary, if the beneficiary is not the same as the purchaser — must meet the following eligibility requirements:

No board member or employee, or immediate family member of a board member or employee, of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network Action Fund or its sister organization Chesapeake Climate Action Network shall be permitted to win the prize. For purposes of this Raffle, “immediate family” is defined as the board member/employee and their spouse or partner, and their parents, children, brothers, and sisters.

Our intent in creating and enforcing this rule is to avoid the creation of a conflict of interest or even the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Raffle tickets are NOT tax-deductible.

CCAN Action Fund will pay backup withholding federal and state tax payments on behalf of the Prize Winners so that the Prize Winners do not have to provide that money, which is normally required in advance of receiving the Prizes. Find more details here.

Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 9:00 am ET:  Ticket Sales Begin

Raffle tickets will be sold up to the maximum of 7,000 valid tickets. Ticket sales will cease as soon as the maximum is reached or the sales period expires.

Raffle ticket sales are final.

Ticket sales conclude Thursday, August 22, 6:00 PM ET unless sales end earlier due to reaching the maximum number of valid tickets to be sold.

August 22, 2024, 6:00 pm ET:  Drawing

Our annual EV Raffle drawing will take place on August 24 at 6:00 PM ET and the winners will be announced on live-stream beginning at 7:00 pm ET the same day. Instructions for locating and joining the stream will be published on the website and sent to participants via email.

  • CCAN Action Fund’s Sixth Annual EV Raffle Drawing will occur automatically at the close of the raffle on August 22, 2024 at 6:00 PM.
  • The Drawing will be conducted electronically using the Lottery for WooCommerce plugin. At the time of entry, all entries are assigned a ticket number. Ticket generation is completed automatically and 10-digit ticket numbers are generated at random. Participants are sent their ticket number via email after purchase. WooCommerce will select two winning raffle tickets and send an automatic email to the website administrators. The purchaser of the ticket listed first in this email will receive the first-place prize of choice. The purchaser of the ticket listed second will receive the Ioniq 5 SE. It is possible for the same person to win both prizes if they have purchased both of the winning tickets.
  • The Winners will be announced on livestream on August 22, 2024 starting at 7:00 pm ET. All participants will be sent instructions on how to join the livestream via email a few days before the winner is announced. Winners do not have to be present to win.

CCAN Action Fund will use the funds raised from the raffle to advocate for public policies that fight climate change across the Chesapeake region and nationwide. The United States recently became the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which means record amounts of the powerful greenhouse gas methane are leaking all over the world. We will work to stop the LNG expansion. We’re also pressuring the D.C. Public Service Commission (PSC) to REJECT a multi-billion dollar pollution plan which would spend $4.5 billion ratepayer dollars on polluting methane gas infrastructure. With your help, we will continue advocating for building electrification, public transit, electing climate champions, and helping those most vulnerable adapt to the consequences of a changing climate. The First-Place Prize Winner will have the choice between two prizes: 

  • Build-Your-Own-Rivian: The Prize Winner may choose to build their own Rivian R1S SUV or R1T pickup truck up to a maximum expenditure of $109,990. Prize includes state and federal taxes, with a total value up to $159,485.50. Delivery is dependent on the manufacturer. 
  • Build-Your-Own Tesla: The Prize Winner may choose to build their own Tesla (including the possibility of a Cybertruck) up to a maximum expenditure of $103,990. Prize includes state and federal taxes, with a total value up to $150,785.50. Delivery is dependent on the manufacturer. Important notice to Cybertruck enthusiasts: Waitlist means delivery of your prize will not come earlier than 2025.

The Second-Place Prize Winner will be able to purchase an Ioniq 5 SE up to the maximum expenditure of $45,850. Prize includes state and federal taxes, with a total value up to $66,482.50.

Due to the high popularity of Tesla Cybertruck, estimated delivery of your prize will be no earlier than 2025.
