Leading Regional Climate Advocacy Group Endorses Angela Alsobrooks for Maryland US Senate
CCAN Action Fund Sees Candidate as an Emerging Climate Champion
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 21, 2023
Takoma Park, MD — Today, Chesapeake Climate Action Network Action Fund (CCAN Action Fund) endorsed Angela Alsobrooks, County Executive for Prince George’s County and former State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County, to be the next US Senator for Maryland. Alsobrooks supports climate policies that will reduce carbon emission levels by half before 2030, expand clean energy tax credits, and holds fossil fuel companies accountable through Senator Chris Van Hollen’s (D-MD) Polluters Pay Climate Fund Act.
CCAN Action Fund’s endorsement of Alsobrooks represents the climate advocacy group’s commitment to supporting diverse candidates. As a lifelong Marylander, Alsobrooks understands the urgent challenges our communities face. The endorsement is also based on the candidate’s support of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, which empowers the US Department of Justice to enforce voting rights.
Statement from Quentin Scott, Federal Policy Director, CCAN Action Fund:
“This week, as black leaders from across the country are gathered in DC for the Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Conference, the timing couldn’t be better to proudly endorse Angela Alsobrooks to be the next US Senator for Maryland. Alsobrooks’s commitment to seeking justice for all, whether it’s in the courtroom or legislative chamber, gives us confidence she is the best person to represent families across Maryland. We were thrilled as an organization that she is ready to co-sponsor Senator Van Hollen’s Polluters Pay Climate Fund Act, which is a top priority for our organization.”
