CCAN Action Fund Announces Endorsements for Maryland House and Senate

Leading advocacy group announces support for dozens of climate champions statewide

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) Action Fund announced today its first round of candidate endorsements for the 2026 Maryland elections, highlighting a diverse slate of aspiring lawmakers who are committed to taking bold climate action in the coming year and beyond. These candidates come from all across the state — including 12 candidates for the Senate and 49 for the House of Delegates. CCAN Action Fund is endorsing them in the current primaries based on their demonstrated support for clean energy, climate action, and data center reform.

“We’re excited to announce our first round of 2026 climate champion endorsements,” said Brittany Baker, CCAN Action Fund’s Maryland director, ”We want to help Marylanders see which candidates have made a commitment to addressing skyrocketing energy costs, fighting the unfair big tech takeover, building resilience in the face of extreme weather events, and enacting the other urgent reforms needed to stabilize our climate and move toward a clean energy future. We hope that our endorsements will encourage everyone who cares about making Maryland a better place, now and in the future, to vote for climate champions in the primary and in the general election.”

CCAN Action Fund evaluated candidates based on two core criteria:

  • Policy Alignment: A demonstrated commitment to advancing ambitious climate policies, expanding clean energy, and addressing the growing impact of data centers on Maryland’s energy grid.
  • Integrity and Ethics: A proven track record of ethical leadership and accountability, ensuring candidates can effectively serve and represent their communities.

CCAN Action Fund’s endorsement process also included candidate questionnaire responses, pledge commitments, and extensive independent research and due diligence. Early voting is now underway. A second round of endorsements will be released following the primary elections.

“Maryland is facing so many critical challenges right now – from proliferating, resource hungry  data centers to escalating extreme weather events and more – all compounded by a federal administration that is trying to put an end to clean energy and climate action,” said Mike Tidwell, executive director of CCAN Action Fund. “Now, more than ever, we need strong, effective leadership at the state level. Let’s get out the vote for these climate champions!”
