CCAN Action Fund Congratulates Elaine Luria and Janelle Stelson on Congressional Wins
Victories in two key districts underscore a call for climate leadership, affordable clean energy, and a new direction in the United States Congress
WASHINGTON, DC – Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) Action Fund congratulates our endorsed candidates, Elaine Luria (VA-02) and Janelle Stelson (PA-10), on their successful campaigns to represent two key districts. We look forward to working with their staff to advance a comprehensive climate agenda.
Since the beginning of the Trump Administration, climate action has been an afterthought. The brazen hostility towards affordable clean energy, removing the words climate change from government websites, or issuing tariffs to extract agreements from other countries to invest in the U.S. fossil fuel industry all became too much for the American people. Last night’s election results can only be seen as a rebuke of Trump policies.
In less than two months, Congress will have new majorities in the House and Senate. The American people have given Congress a new mandate, a new direction. As this current Congress looks to wrap up its business during this “lame duck” session, they should NOT take actions that are in direct opposition to the will of the voters.
In response, Quentin Scott, Federal Policy Director for CCAN Action Fund, released the following statement:
“Congress has a clear mandate to rein in this Administration and, more importantly, to take the lead on the greatest challenges facing our society. Climate change, data centers, and affordability were on the ballot last night, and the American people in a resounding voice said we’re moving in the wrong direction. I expect newly elected representatives to hear the American people and fight for the things they campaigned on. Next week the ‘lame duck’ session begins, and we call on current officeholders to resist any effort to pass more of Trump’s unpopular agenda. The American people have spoken, and Congress should act accordingly.”
